On September 21, the Pilecki Institute in New York hosted the Polish-American Economic Summit \u2013 an economic summit organized during the annual session of the UN General Assembly by the Foundation Center for Development Strategies in cooperation with the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland. The event gathered nearly 200 participants, including CEOs and executives representing over 80 key companies from Poland and the United States, representatives of the U.S. administration, and world-class experts. The summit, held under the Honorary Patronage of President of Poland Karol Nawrocki, represents a significant step in elevating Polish-American economic cooperation to the rank of a long-term strategic alliance that connects national security with dynamic industrial and technological growth. <\/strong><\/p>

\u2013 Today, security and the economy have ceased to be two separate spheres of policy. Where a factory is built, where gas flows from, and who builds a power plant determine state security today just as much as the number of soldiers and tanks. Poland and the United States stand today right at the intersection of these two orders \u2013 and this is the precise reason why we are meeting today in New York during the week of the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly <\/em>\u2013 said President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki<\/strong> during the opening of the summit. \u2013 For three decades after 1989, Poland built its economic position step by step\u2014with a consistency that is paying off today. We now stand at a point where this work can pay off with something more than just GDP growth \u2013 a strategic economic partnership with the United States that will translate into Poland’s development for generations to come <\/em> \u2013 added the Polish President.<\/strong><\/p>

Three Strategic Pillars of Poland\u2013U.S. Cooperation: Defense, Energy, and Industry<\/strong><\/p>

The President of Poland presented three key strategic proposals for the development of Polish-American economic cooperation. The first proposal concerns locating regional maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities for American military equipment in Poland. This requires the U.S. side to recognize service and co-production as a full-fledged part of industrial cooperation \u2013 something Poland is fully prepared for as it continues the trajectory set by recent intergovernmental agreements on servicing and training. The second proposal is to establish a regional gas hub based on deliveries of American LNG, where the expansion of Polish terminals will enable the distribution of the fuel across the entire region, offering U.S. suppliers a market significantly larger than Poland alone. The third proposal involves agreeing on a joint list of concrete industrial projects \u2013 in the fields of clean energy for industry, automotive electronics, and European manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) \u2013 linked with U.S. export credit and the Polish investment incentive system.<\/p>

\u2013 At the Center for Development Strategies, Poland’s strategic, long-term economic development is close to our hearts. That is why we organized the Polish-American Economic Summit as a forum to discuss and think about new perspectives for cooperation and investment. Currently, trade turnover between the U.S. and Poland stands at approximately $40 billion. That is quite a bit, but at the same time, it does not mean we should stop there. It should serve as a good starting point and a solid launchpad toward more ambitious goals. This is a key reason why we are meeting today. We want to talk about what more we can do to plan and establish relationships that result in concrete economic cooperation and a tangible impact on Poland’s GDP <\/em>\u2013 said Marcin Chludzi\u0144ski, Chairman of the Foundation Board of the Development Strategy Centre.<\/strong><\/p>

Center for Development Strategies Report: Five Growth Corridors by 2030<\/strong><\/p>

During the summit, the Center for Development Strategies officially presented its report titled “Five Corridors: Where Polish-American Trade and Investment Will Actually Grow by 2030 \u2013 and What Will Drive the Growth.”<\/em><\/span><\/a> The report defines five strategic corridors in which Polish-American cooperation and investments will expand most dynamically through 2030: Defense (Transitioning from equipment purchases exceeding $25 billion to co-production, maintenance services, and the creation of a regional hub for NATO); Energy (A growing share of American LNG, accounting for 30.7% of gas imports, the construction of a nuclear power plant, and the creation of a regional distribution hub); Industry (Reorganizing supply chains in the automotive and pharmaceutical sectors by leveraging Poland’s attractive labor costs (\u20ac19.1\/h compared to the EU average of \u20ac34.9\/h)); Technology & Talent (Harnessing the potential of 2.24 million STEM graduates and shifting from simple service centers toward R&D and decision-making roles) and Trade & Infrastructure (Utilizing the Port of Gda\u0144sk as a gateway for U.S. goods entering Central Europe).<\/p>

Key Discussions on Polish-American Cooperation<\/strong><\/p>

The substantive program of the summit featured four panel discussions and a presentation session for Polish startups, during which business leaders and experts discussed the key pillars of Polish-American economic, technological, and geopolitical cooperation. The business relations panel focused on leveraging Poland as a stable base for investment and export, developing infrastructure to create a regional LNG gas hub supplying countries including Ukraine, and navigating regulatory challenges arising from the specifics of European and U.S. markets.
The technology session analyzed the growing role of Polish engineers and artificial intelligence, cybersecurity issues, and showcased domestic innovations \u2013 including AI algorithms for emergency services, 3D animal prosthetics, deepfake protection, digital pediatric apps, and flight computers for drones and satellites.
The energy panel provided an analysis of progress in building Poland’s first nuclear power plant, the involvement of over 1,000 domestic enterprises through local content requirements, and the use of AI to optimize power grids and lower energy costs. The defense panel centered on moving from procurement to co-production, technology transfer, and establishing a regional service center for PAC-3 Patriot missiles, as well as lessons learned from the war in Ukraine regarding drone system development and the necessity of long-term government contracts to attract private capital.<\/p>
